Loan Desk, Main Library – 1st floor

Here you can get essential information about how the Main Library and departmental libraries operate (including opening hours and locations) and learn how to borrow books for home use.

Information Desk in the Open Access Area, Main Library – 2nd floor

The librarian on duty will explain how to search for literature on a chosen topic, use the Open Access Collections and access electronic resources.

Subject librarians

Our subject specialists provide guidance in specific fields of study. They will help you find relevant literature, recommend useful databases and point you toward reliable scholarly sources.

Accessibility Guide

Measures taken to remove barriers to library access for people with disabilities:

Infrastructure improvements:

  • a ramp at the main entrance to the building
  • automatic doors
  • a lift enabling people with mobility impairments to reach the first floor
  • a platform lift on the ground floor providing access to the lift serving the second and third floors
  • restrooms adapted for people with mobility impairments on the first and second floors

Equipment and software supporting access to Library resources for people with special needs:

  • a Braille embosser
  • a scanner designed for digitizing thick materials, such as books
  • Duxbury Braille Translator – an application for converting standard text into Braille
  • Abby FineReader Professional 10
  • computer workstations equipped with the Linux Xubuntu 20 system, fitted with keyboards adapted for visually impaired users and trackballs, as well was accessibility‑supporting software: the Orca screen reader, the Kmag screen magnifier and the Thorium e‑book reader. Shortcuts for launching and stopping the Orca reader are available on the desktop and the taskbar. Shortcuts for the remaining programs are located on the taskbar only. Login is available with a library card or a weekly pass, issued free of charge at the Loan Desk (1st floor) upon presentation of a photo ID.

Computer locations:

  • 1st floor – lobby, next to the Braille embosser
  • 1st floor – lobby, at the workstation to the left of the staircase by the window (facing the Library exit)
  • 2nd floor – Open Access Area, near the Art & Museum collection and the Pomeranian Studies Reading Room
  • 3rd floor – Special Collections Reading Room, next to the scanner

Evaluate the training
