Project goals

The general objective of the project:

  • increasing the general access to high quality public sector information from the sources of science that are at the disposal of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, and enabling their reuse by expanding the resources of the Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library by 28 thousand digital objects and 15 thousand new electronic bibliographic descriptions. The database will be publicly available, all standards for digitization, document description and internet publishing will be maintained.

The detailed objectives in the digitization module include scanning and publishing on the Internet the following resources:

Resources at the disposal of the NCU:

  • regional periodicals regarding Pomerania from pre-war and war times (1800 items),
  • reports of regional institutions, including the oldest scientific societies in Poland from the 19th century to modern times (500 facilities),
  • periodicals, bulletins, dramatic texts and other materials of Polish emigration (6,500 items),
  • cultural and scientific heritage of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region (2000 items):
  • Pomeranica, Baltica, Prussica (mainly books) - nineteenth-century studies and scientific sources on the subject of Poland, Pomerania, Baltic countries and former Prussia,
  • special collections (manuscripts, old prints, notes, maps, graphics) - among others modern manuscripts, 19th-century music, especially notes with Fryderyk Chopin's music with his handwritten notes, nineteenth-century graphics and maps, 11 silver book bindings from the Silver Library of Prince Albrecht Hohenzollern and his second wife Anna Maria (3D digitization and preparation of 11 multimedia presentations to the electronic exhibition),
  • Polonica - mainly books about Poland or Poland related from the 16th to the 20th century (2000 items),
  • photographic legacy of the Toruń’s artist, Wacław Górski (5200 items).

Resources at the KWU's disposal:

  • reports of scientific societies and junior high schools of the region from the 19th and 20th centuries (3,900 objects),
  • documents from the Laboratory of the citizens of Bydgoszcz memory, including memories, photos (1000 items),
  • collections of the Museum of Diplomacy and Refugee - documents from the Poznański family collection (200 items),
  • Hungarian collection - family archive of Josef Trajtler, head of the railway traffic office in Bydgoszcz (200 items),
  • collection of the Cultural Heritage Studio of Eastern Borderlands (2000 items),
  • cultural heritage - old prints, maps, graphics (500 items),
  • objects of the Museum of Education in Bydgoszcz: pedagogical collection, portfolios of pedagogues from the Pedagogical Library of the Province of Marian Rejewski in Bydgoszcz (400 items),
  • scientific works, monographs and articles of the Kazimierz Wielki University (1800 items).

Specific objectives in the retrospective conversion module are:

  • broadening access to electronic scientific information and accelerating the search for information about library resources of both universities through retrospective conversion and making available on the Internet 15 thousand records of copies in bibliographic descriptions of library resources not available in electronic form,
  • placing new records in own catalogs and sending them to the national database of the Polish NUKAT catalog (http://www.nukat.edu.pl/) and through them to the global WorldCat. Descriptions will be made in the MARC21 standard using the ISBN cataloging rules with RDA elements.

  • University Library in Toruń,
  • Main Library of the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz,
  • Provincial Public Library - Copernicus Library in Toruń,
  • Archive of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń,
  • Museum of Education in Bydgoszcz.
