The LGBTQ+ community in the library space – a meeting with Przemysław Krysiński, PhD and Natalia Pamuła, PhD
On June 8th at 1:30 PM, we invite you to a meeting with Przemysław Krysiński, PhD and Natalia Pamuła, PhD assistant professors at the Nicolaus Copernicus University Institute of Information and Communication Research, promoting Dr. Krysiński's latest book, The LGBTQ+ Community in the Library Space: Supporting Inclusion and Diversity as a New Area of Library Activity. The discussion will take place in the Nicolaus Copernicus University Main Library (room 8), and will be moderated by Milena Śliwińska, PhD, director of the Nicolaus Copernicus University Library.
This publication addresses the issue, rarely discussed in Polish scholarly literature, of whether and how libraries address the information needs of non-heteronormative individuals and whether staff members in Polish public libraries are well prepared to work with non-heteronormative users. The book aims to assess the extent of librarians' knowledge about the LGBTQ+ community and to identify the needs of both sexual minorities and the library community in this context. Based on in-depth interviews, we were able to create a catalog of the most popular services that allow libraries to fulfill their mission as inclusive institutions and promote diversity. The publication also offers exemplary solutions for meeting the information needs of the LGBTQ+ community in public libraries.
