Stefan Knapp. Alchemist and Visionary - an exhibition

On February 20, 2026 at 7 p.m., the Centre for Contemporary Art ‘Znaki Czasu’ in Toruń, located at Wały gen. Sikorskiego 13 Street, will host the opening of the exhibition 'Stefan Knapp. Alchemist and Visionary' organised by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University Library in Toruń and the Centre for Contemporary Art.
This unique artistic event is the culmination of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
The retrospective exhibition will feature over 110 works created between 1945 and the 1990s. Among them will be paintings on canvas, drawings, tapestries, enamels on steel plates, sculptures, as well as functional designs. This is the largest exhibition of Stefan Knapp's works in Poland since 1974, prepared in cooperation with the Stefan Knapp Estate Foundation and collector Paweł Sokołowski.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the first monographic academic publication in Poland devoted to the artist and the fifth edition of his autobiography, 'Kwadratowe słońce' ('Square Sun').
The exhibition was co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the City of Toruń.
