Happy Easter! Easter in an old postcard - an exhibition

Happy Easter! Easter in an old postcard from the collection of the Graphic Collections Office of the University Library in Toruń is the title of the exhibition presented until April 14 on the third floor of the Nicolaus Copernicus University Main Library.

In connection with Easter, the Special Collections Department of the Nicolaus Copernicus University Library has prepared an exhibition of Easter postcards from the collection of the Library's Graphic Collections Office. The selected cards come from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the first quarter of the 20th century and several post-war ones - up to the 1960s. They show how many topics can be illustrated during Easter: from the traditional representation of the Risen Jesus to lambs, sheep, bunnies and, of course, Easter eggs. The holiday theme also includes folk, patriotic motifs and rituals related to the holiday.

The selected cards included: the works of Ludwik Stasiak (1858-1924), who incorporated various sayings and poems into his performances, including: a short and atmospheric piece by Bogusław Serwin (1882-1956) Alleluia!.

The world became strangely sunny.
The spring wind blows in the sky.
The butterfly laughs and the flower laughs.
He joyfully shouts: Hallelujah!
A graceful daisy among green meadows
From hiding he calls: "Here I am"
Find my girl, crown my temple with God
Christ is Risen - Hallelujah!
The dead have happier dreams in their graves.
And the cemetery guard, black thuja
Although he looks sad, he smiles through his tears
And he whispers quietly: Hallelujah!

We encourage you to watch!
