The Main Reading Room houses a large general reference collection including encyclopedias, Polish and foreign dictionaries, directories and the most popular periodicals (Gazeta Wyborcza, Polityka, Rzeczpospolista).

The Main Reading Room collection is organized according to the NCU Library systematic classification. Here readers can access items (books and periodicals) stored in the depositories. Materials other than those in the Main Reading Room open stacks and the Open Access Collection require ordering by filling in a paper order identified with red diagonal stripe. Materials are held for 3 days.

In the Main Reading Room there are computers with access to the electronic journals and data bases on the NCU Network. You can access materials ordered through the Interlibrary Loan service here.

The Reading Room has a self-service photocopier and microfilm reader stations. The librarian will accept your request for photocopies and digital copies.

The Current Periodicals Reading Room offers access to over 3500 current periodicals. Among them are Polish and foreign titles, scientific periodicals, newspapers, government publications and microfilmed journals. Periodicals are arranged into main branches of knowledge.

Archived back issues of periodicals can be ordered from the depositories into the Current Periodicals Reading Room. Some periodicals can only be found in the Journals Card Catalog and must be ordered by filling out a paper order form.

You can use the self-service photocopier or have copies made by filling out a request form at the librarian's desk.

The Pomeranian Collection was established on Oct. 1, 1975 to meet the specific needs of local readers, those researching the history of Pomerania and the Baltic Sea countries.

The collection currently houses over 22 000 volumes, including prints published after 1800, of mostly scientific nature, presenting political, social and economic history, as well as culture, science, art, and history of church related issues.

Territorially, the collection encompasses Pomerania within its historical boundaries, Warmia and Masuria, Gdansk Pomerania and Culmerland, former East Prussia up to Klaipeda, as well as the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) and the Scandinavian countries.

The entire collection is open stacks, where items are arranged into clear and easy to understand section order.

The Special Collections are an exceptionally valuable part of the NCU Library resources. All Special Holdings items are accessible only in the Reading Rooms on the third floor. The Special Holdings Reading Room houses manuscripts, old prints, art prints, music scores and cartographic resources. Other Special Holdings collections are available in the Social Life Documentation Reading Room.

Each Reading Room has a library of relevant reference resources and card catalogs. A digital version of the catalogs and a subject data base is also available.

You may order photocopies or digital copies. There is a fee for taking photos of the reference resources.
