SCIENTIFIC CO-OPERATION

The NCU Library in Torun participates in numerous international initiatives, collaborating with public and academic libraries in Germany and Lithuania (Vilnius, Bamberg, Berlin, Greifswald, Marburg, Oldenburg and Rostock), as well as with several foreign research institutions (e.g. Deutsches Polen-Institut and Nordost-Institut in Lüneburg). Working relations with the Deutsches Polen-Institut in Darmstadt resulted in a 4-volume bibliography of Polish-German relations titled Deutsch-polnische Beziehungen in Geschichte und Gegenwart: Bibliographie 1900-1998 (Wiesbaden, 2000). Since 1995 the NCU Library has partnered with the Herder-Institut in Marburg in publishing Bibliographie der Geschichte Ost- und Westpreußen and Bibliographie der Geschichte Pommerns.

The Archives of Polish Emigration, with Stefania Kossowska of London, co-edited the series Archiwum Emigracji. ¬ródła i materiały do dziejów emigracji polskiej po 1939 roku, which published 28 volumes between 1995-2007. The Archives collaborates with numerous cultural, artistic and research institutions of Polish emigration and Polish diaspora, which include Polish libraries in London and Montreal, the Association of Polish Artists (Gallery of Polish Art in Exile), the Polish-Scandinavian Research Institute in Copenhagen, as well as institutions that maintain Polish collections, including The Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace (Stanford) and the Dictionary of Artists in Britain since 1945 publisher. Working ties with the Polish Cultural Foundation in London prompted the 2001-2003 funding of The Emigration Archives Award, presented for outstanding Master's thesis and doctoral dissertation on Polish emigration.

One of NCU's priorities involves co-operation with research and cultural institutions in Lithuania. The collaboration has resulted predominantly in publications exchange and co-organization or hosting of art exhibitions. The University partners with the Polish Institute in Vilnius. The NCU Library also maintains a working relationship with the Vilnius University Library, which effected in the first exhibition of the Stephen Bathory University insignia in Poland.

In 2003 the NCU Library in Torun began collaborating with the University Library of Regensburg on developing a catalog of electronic journals. The Library also has an expert representative on the advisory board of the Bertelsmann Foundation which manages library projects in Poland.

The NCU Library is a member of two international organizations: Bibliotheca Baltica and IAML - International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres.

EUROPEAN UNION PROGRAMMES

Between 1998 and 1999, the NCU Library acted as partner in the DEDICATE project (Distance Education Information Courses Through Networks), organized as part of the 4th Framework Programme of the European Union.

In 2000 the NCU Library's European Documentation Centre co-ordinated the PHARE project: Through Information Towards the European Union, which resulted in the publication of the EU programme directory for Poland (Programy Unii Europejskiej dla Polski. CDE, Torun 2000). Between 1999 and 2003 the Centre also functioned as a contact point for the 5th and 6th Framework Programme of the European Union. Since April 2003 it has been a partner in a focus project, referred to as the Regional Strategy of Innovation of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province, which follows EU guidelines.

Between 2004 and 2006 thanks to funds from the Integrated Operational Programme for Regional Development the first stage of Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library was build. Medical Library and the Kazimierz Wielki University Library in Bydgoszcz collaborated in project Information Society Infrastructure.

From 2007 NCU Library co-operates in Communia: The European Thematic Network on the Public Domain in the Digital Age. This project will be realized till 2010 in eContent Plus Framework. Main idea of this project is to create a co-operation network between centers which are collaborating in favour Open Access movement. Other presumptions of this project is to create some rules about running digital materials in public domain. There will be also some discussions about the electronic publications licensing, science communication and orphan works management .

In year 2008 NCU Library joined as a associated partner the ENRICH project. This scheme is a part of eContent Plus Framework. The goal of this project is to enable constant access to digital version of national heritage documentations. The ENRICH project integrate 85% digital version of manuscripts from European national libraries. Members of this project provide access to over 5 millions of digital pages. There will be created some scientific area were scientist can work on manuscripts. Manuscriptorium Digital Library will be the basis of this scientific area. This Digital Library gives access to 46 collections from Czech Republic and other countries.
